How can you make a boat that is stable and buoyant?

Welcome to Iqaluit! It is Toonik Tyme Festival!

We had a mini Toonik Tyme Festival on Friday to share what we know about Iqaluit and to think about the similarities with Iqaluit and Rocky.

The Grade 2s were local community members (from Iqaluit), hired to take tourists from Rocky on an Iqaluit adventure. With their travel itinerary in hand, the Grade 2s taught the Grade 1s all about Iqaluit culture and traditions as they explored different activities at the festival.

How does cooling materials change them?

What do you get when you mix 1 teaspoon of sugar, half cup of milk and a drop of vanilla? The Grade 2s will tell you they discovered an easy way to make ice cream! We investigated why some ice cream was frozen and others were more of a liquid. Maybe there was not enough insulation? Maybe we did not shake it long enough? Did we need to add more rock salt to the ice? We were very inquisitive and sweet scientists today! ;)

What is hot and cold?

The Grade 2 class explored the school to find hot and cold objects. They took pictures of these objects and then in groups of 2 and 3, they made a slideshow to reflect and discuss hot and cold.
